TOFMOD Workshop 2020 (satellite event of Virtual Physiological Human conference 2020) Speaker: Pablo Lamata, School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, St Thomas' Hospital, King's College London, UK Title: The analysis of the reservoir and conduit function of the aorta from 4D flow MRI suggest better surgical strategies Abstract: Aortic reconstructive surgeries in congenital conditions aim to restore its reservoir and conduit function. This talk presents the method to evaluate these two functional aspects, working with 4D flow MRI, and analyses the surgical outcomes of 10 congenital cases compared to 6 age matched controls. Results illustrate that the conduit and reservoir function are in compromise when using homograph tissue to augment vascular calibre, and that better surgical strategies may be designed to hit a better balance between them.
